TRAINING YOUR ALASKAN MALAMUTE
If
you train your dog, you will reap the rewards of that training for the
life of the dog. And what a life it would be! The two of you will find
immeasurable pleasure in the companionship you have built together with
love, respect and understanding.
Enroll in an obedience class and teach your
dog good manners as you learn how and why your dog behaves the way he
does. Find out how to communicate with your dog and how to recognise and
understand his communications with you. Suddenly the dog takes a new
role in your lives, he demonstrates his bond of devotion to you daily.
Training
and discipline you dog to act in accordance with rules, brings order to
his and your life. It is as simple as that. Without discipline chaos
will reign supreme. Humans and canines are both social species and needs
discipline and training to function effectively. Your dogs will actually
train you at the same time you are training him. Dogs do things to get
attention. They usually repeat whatever succeeds in getting your
attention.
Training
dogs when they are puppies results in high rate of success in developing
well-mannered and well-adjusted adult dogs. Training a puppy aged 8 to
16 weeks (20 weeks at the most) is like working with a dry sponge in a
pool of water. The pup soaks up whatever you show him and constantly
looks for more things to do and learn. At this early age , his body is
not yet producing hormones, and therein lies the reason for such a high
success rate.
Training
an older dog, from six months to 6 years of age, can almost produce
equal results providing that the owner accepts the dog's slower rate of
learning capability and is willing to work patiently to help the dog
succeed at developing to his fullest potential.
Unfortunately, many owners of untrained
adult dogs lack the patience factor, so they do not persist until their
dogs are successful at learning particular behaviours and obedience.
Suddenly the dog takes a new role in your
life - he is smart, interesting, well behaved and fun to be with. He
will demonstrate his bond of devotion to you daily. Your Alaskan
Malamute will do wonders for your ego, because he will constantly remind
you that you are not only his leader, but his hero!
As previously discussed, it is a good idea
to enroll in a obedience class. If you think your Alaskan Malamute is a
show show class, ringcraft classes would be more appropriate. Many areas
have dog clubs that offer basic obedience training as well as
preparatory classes for obedience competitions. There are also local dog
trainers who offer similar classes.
It is to you and your families
benefit to train your dog.

Training
a dog is a life experience.
