Our Logo:

- Symbolises the diversity of South Africa with the flag inserted within the outline boundaries of our beloved Country.

- The 4 Colored dogs represents the sled dog breeds as classified by being the  Alaskan Malamute, Greenland Dog, Samoyeds and the Siberian Husky.

- The musher on the 3-wheel cart represents the owners of all purebred sled dog breeds in South Africa.

- The 3-wheel cart, represent all the activities available on offering; Caniwalk, Canicross, Scootering, Bikejoring, Team Carting, Weight Pulling, Backpacking & Trekking; enabling you the owner to work your sled dog as for the purpose for their existence, to work in harness.

 
Fundamental principles:

SAFDSS bound ourselves to apply the following fundamental principles:

bullet The practice of dog sledging sports with pure breed sled dogs.
bullet To comply with the principles of amateur sports and fair play.
bullet Respect the rules of national and International Societies for the prevention of cruelty to animals.
bullet Respect the original characteristics of purebred sled dog breeds as prescribed by the breed standards for that specific breed.
bullet Confident cooperation with the corresponding breeding associations in the various countries
 
 
Our Vision:

To promote a common and uniform development of dog sledging sports and sled dog events with pure breed sled dogs. The autonomy of member clubs and associations to be guaranteed and to lead the way by setting the Standards in Dog Sledding Sports for South Africa through education and participation of sled dog owners through proper regulation of the sport.

 
Our Mission:

To establish and maintain a Dog Sledding Sports Body in South Africa, which operates according to sound, moral and ethical practices and policies by placing the needs, welfare and safety of the dogs first by implementing and adhering to animal welfare practices in accordance to National and International standards.

 
Our Objectives:

- To be democratic in its governance and its approach to governing by being transparent to its members at all times without being dictorial;

- To operate outside the principals of autocratic decision making in offering clear definitive guidelines and structure for the Sport without intruding on the autonomy of the individual clubs;

- To govern in a fair way, guiding Clubs, Associations and individuals to make the necessary corrections, when required or where lacking;

- To promote and educate SAFDSS Members on rules, regulations and procedures, thereby ensuring proper conduct of all events which abide by the rules, regulations and procedures as documented;

- To co-ordinate and protect the common interest of its members and collect, collate and circulate information to and amongst its members;

- To inform and educate the members of the proper care and handling of the animals participating to ensure their humane treatment and to ensure identification and treatment of any health problem, particular to our sled dogs;.

- To work towards getting recognition for pure breed sled dogs whom haven't been registered with the national breed society, as per the directive from F.C.I to grand working titles for participate with registered pure breed sled dogs in dog sledding sports. Sled dogs receiving Working Titles will not be permitted to breed with.

- To operate fully under WADA – World Anti-Doping Agency principals, rules & regulations for both human and canine athletes.
