The Hennops Hiking Trail
guided tour
Krokodilberg Hike
We
have all been part of history in the making by getting
together on our first outing for the Alaskan Malamute
breed - a first for the Gauteng Region. At last we could
put a face to a name and a Mal picture to the real
thing. On arrival it was anxiety amongst all to get
started. 25 People with a total of 17 dogs (13 Mals & 4
other) started the hike.

The
Krokodilberg Trail illustrated the full diversity of the
area. We started of by following the bank of the Hennops
river for some distance before crossing the river via a
suspension bridge. As some of the pictures describe it
was with effort that all dogs crossed to the other side.
We saw bribes like treats, biltong & dry wors coming out
as encouragement to cross over. Some dogs had to be half
carried, other leopard crawled across. With the wide
gaps in between more than one dog almost slipped
through, but with a helping hand in support coming from
others, we all eventually crossed the river.
The trail climbs
steeply away from the river valley from where we had
some lovely views of the surrounding Magaliesberg
mountains. The trail eventually leaded us back to
the Hennops river and a crossing by means of a hand
operated cable car. From here it was a short walk
back to the camp and parking area. With howling and
barking filling our ears we stood around enjoying
our picnic lunch while enjoying each others company
and discussing our Mals and our first engagement.
It was a wonderful outing and we
had so much fun. The trail was challenging but
that made it all the more interesting and fun,
it was great when the dogs pulled us uphill but
uh scary when they charged downhill, the
suspension bridge was a real treat as most of
the Mals did not want to go across, and the
single cable car well that was a no no for the
dogs but the humans did use it and the dogs swam
across the river. The scenery was stunning and
as I said the challenging trail turned this into
a real adventure. I think that dogs and people
alike really enjoyed this outing, I know we
did. It was wonderful meeting many of the
people and the their Mals in person and I will
do this again any day. Yes, Chanuba's is Flash's
sister.Wow what a small world. So six years
later today brother and sister met again for the
first time. WE HAD A WONDERFUL MORNING. THANK
YOU EVERYONE. The four dogs we took with were
very quiet in the car on the way home, pooped
and fast asleep ..... I'm all up to the next
challenge, it was GREAT ....
