FAERIE GLEN NATURE WALK - 2

As Derrick & Jolene arrived at our planned walk they discovered that the gates were locked. As I had plan B in place we returned to a venue we have walked previously, "The Faerie Glen nature Reserve". It was amazing to see how the seasons can change the looks of a place. From the pictures you will be able to see for yourself.

and behind the camera was Johan, Nike & Rosa with the other regulars Mandy, Francis and the Zoo looking for the moon after they already had the honey. Anton & Kirstin with Thor at a wedding in KZN. Don't we always talk about you all in your absence  ......  only good things.

At first we thought it might be a good idea to sit down for breakfast but as we were already 45 minutes late after our detour and ending up at a locked gate at Garskloof Park - Wingate Park,  we decided to enjoy our next nature walk.

It was a lovely overcast morning with low temperatures ideal for walking our Mals through the Nature Reserve. As it was still early morning and cold not many other dog owners could be seen. This time we did not cross the river as humans were to warmly dressed to wet either their shoes or long pants and therefore opted for a sorter router below the river and ended up in many dead-ends.

FAERIE GLEN NATURE RESERVE WALK - 1

This is one of the nicest dog walks in Gauteng. With most of our regular participants not able to attend our rescheduled outing, it still has been great fun and most enjoyable for all. a Special welcome to Anton & Kristin White with the beast "Thor" on their first outing. All the Alaskan Malamutes present with their friends (Beagles, GSD's, Fox Terrier, Husky & Wolf X Malamute) second this.

Should we go uphill or along the River?   Hudson looking on   Thor arriving for his first outing

With the Gillooly's Monster in our minds, we decided rather to start of by taking the flat route along the river bank. Looking at the Internet map, it looked easy, but after the rain with thick vegetation finding the paths and turnoffs weren't that easy. Instead of going the easy route we ended up going uphill from the opposite side, but it wasn't as bad as the Gillooly's killer - nobody felt like dying on the way.

What a wonderful outing with  our two legged friends.   Hey dad (Anton) isn't this fun, we must do it again.   Which way know?

Every time when we have to cross water we have fun with one or other Malamute and this time it was the newcomer Thor the Beast.

If the beast don't come to the water you take him   and with a little help from Francis ...   ... we have reached the other side.

After completing Rhenoster Kop and the Faerie Glen Hill climbs, we returned safely to where we have started from.

Anton & Thor - thank goodness, this time they allowed for a bridge to cross over.   At last we have completed the race.
Just get me home - don't understand
why we can't travel in the Volvo

Just wanted to say that Sunday's outing was a great success, as always! Hudson almost took Reinart for a dive off the bridge to cool down! It was nice to finally meet Thor, he is beautiful! And the outing just wouldn't have been the same if it weren't ended with the infamous choir!  It is just a pity that we had to leave so soon. Next time we will definitely join the group for a refreshment afterwards.........all the dogs under the trees and all the friends around one big table looked  like so much fun! Cant wait to see the pictures ...... Jolene

Wow, I love all the attention I am getting as the new kid on the FAMCSA Hikes.

Hi guys, it's much cooler since I have blown my coat.

I could not agree more........it was once again a GREAT success, as we drove into the parking area I already knew who Anton and his wife are, how can you miss that massive Malamute. I am also so glad the I finally got to meet him, and his parents of course. Hope we will see you at the next outing? Please. The walk was not so hard this time......whew. To FAMC, thank you for starting something so amazing, it's great to see how the dogs all interact with each other without a problem. Ok besides my GSD x Husky Jason and Thor, for some reason they took a dislike in each other right from the start......but nothing serious happened ....... the two of them were actually comical to watch, my girls loved Thor and I don't think that Jason appreciated that very much.

I don't know if anyone noticed but at one stage my little Beagle, Oreo kept growling at Hudson while they were tied up under the tree, Hudson just looked at him as though he was saying "hey little fella what's your problem, watch it" it was so funny. It's like Hudson was laughing at him cause he knew this little fella is no challenge.

I was so embarrassed when my choir started again at the tea garden, I am sure that the patrons without dogs were not impressed, but then after a while I decided well there is no stopping them, they WANT to join our conversation so I could not care less what the other patrons were thinking.....and found the situation very comical. Rosa was quite the clown when she was tied up, oh boy she made so sure that everyone noticed her, well I would want the world to see me too if I was so beautiful, she is just the sweetest girl, careful or I might just steal her (joking). Three cheers for our amazing Malamutes, who by the way were smellamutes on the way home. Ok guys now where is our next outing and when, this is really becoming a highlight in my life.....it's just so much fun.

I JUST LOVE OUR MALAMUTE OUTINGS. Till we meet again (can't wait) ...... Mandy

Thor and Chanuba flirting with each other

Thor had a whale of a time meeting his first female Malamute's - and enjoyed the singing sessions at the end by the tea garden. He hated the water though - man - that was a bit of a mission to get him to cross the river. He fell into our pool shortly after we got him (at 4 months old) and ever since he's had a phobia about getting into water.

He slept like a log on Sunday night - he was really bushed. I think he had the most weight to carry around on the walk and all the hills tired him out - plus he stopped to mark every single bush. Boy can Thor carry a lot of water. :-)  I think Thor found the heat quite tiring - and his summer coat is still fairly thick so he gets hot easily. Any chance we can start the walks earlier in the morning? Starting at 9am and finishing at noon means we hit the main heat of the day. Just a thought. Had a lovely day. Looking forward to the next one. Regards ............ Anton
