Hennops Hiking
Trail: 2 trails running along the Hennops River and through the
surrounding hills. They can be done as day hikes or as a 2-day trail. There
are 2 base camps Loerie (20 people) and Hadeda (18 people) both on the banks
of the Hennops River. They have communal cooking and washing facilities. Day
hikers go to Hadeda Camp where there is a picnic area and swimming pool.
R70pp/day for overnighters, R45pp for day hikers, R45 booking fee. Discounts
available for midweek overnighters, children and groups. Dogs MUST be on a
lead and bring a poop scoop and ziplock bags to REMOVE your dog's poop. Also
there must be no other hikers booked in.

HAUNT (PARYS)
A
dog friendly weekend break at a small-holding on the banks of
the Vaal River in Parys. Great doggy adventures on the offshore
islands in the river as well as other walks and things to do in
the area.

SMUTS HOUSE (IRENE)
A
very pleasant and safe 2-3 km walk to a special koppie where Gen
JC Smuts meditated on life, the United Nations and everything.
And don’t forget to visit his old residence, Smuts’ House.

WALKHAVEN (Zwaartkops)
A
2 km walk on a 22 hectare small-holding on the outskirts of
Joburg. It is completely safe, has natural grassland, a dam with
clean water for doggy swimming and a picnic area.

RIETBOKSPRUIT
Naboomspruit, Limpopo Province
Rietbokspruit Farm
Cottages: Located 25 km north of Naboomspruit on a bushveld
farm. There are several walks all leading to a long low ridge.
Accommodation is in an old farmhouse and several rondawels set
away from the main farmhouse. There is no electricity, but there
are gas showers, fridge and cooker. Paraffin lamps are provided
for light. It can sleep 10 people, R75pp/night. Minimum two
nights at weekends.

HARTEBEESPOORT NW Province
Kommando Nek:
A short, but stiff walk
to an old English blockhouse built during the Boer War which has
commanding views over Hartebeespoort Dam and the surrounding
farm land. The walk is on State Land and you park at the
Lincolnshire Lodge. There is no charge for parking, but you need
to let the owners know you are coming. You can arrange to use
their pool and braai facilities afterwards for R15pp (no dogs in
the pool). You can also visit the huge fleamarket on the old
Rustenburg Road about 1km from the Lodge where you can eat at
the restaurants and browse the stalls.

There are 2 very
walks on the small triangular property: a pleasant 500 m stroll
along a small stream and, a circular 1.5 km walk up the hillside
behind the farmhouse with a link to a track on state land which
can add 2 hours to your walk.

km walk in the Thorntree Conservancy starting and ending
at the Hideaway Bush Pub in Walkerville Fruit
Farms, just 30 minutes south from Rosebank/Sandton.

Magaliesburg
An out of town,
dog friendly small holding near to downtown Magaliesburg. There
are several dog walks in the area. This one is a gentle 4 km
evening ramble along farm roads and tracks.
