ABOUT THE CLUB

The Alaskan Malamute Breed & Working Club of S.A, previously known as "Friends of the Alaskan Malamute Club of S.A" was formed amongst a group of Alaskan Malamute owners whose drive it was to start a breed club without any "dog politics" or hidden personal agendas. Our first objective is to promote the Club amongst all Alaskan Malamute owners showing an interest to grow club membership and to establish social activities amongst our Members countrywide by establishing Club Chapters throughout Southern Africa to engage in social activities.

As a Club we are able to provide benefits and services to those who own, or plan to own Alaskan Malamutes, and encourage all breeders and members to abide by the Constitution, Rules, Code of Ethics and FCI Breed Regulations, being the standards as per the Country of Origin (America). We welcome any person who has an interest in Alaskan Malamutes, whether the dogs are registered or not. The Club aims to guide prospective owners to purchase their dogs from responsible breeders, to help them purchase a pup who will suit their needs, and to help new owners to understand this very special breed so that they may enjoy their dogs to the utmost.

The Club keeps members informed of all activities via the newsletter, "Friends of the Alaskan Malamute in Southern Africa", which comes out quarterly. The topics covered in the newsletter include Club news, Reports and Articles, Social Activities and letters from members. We also publish information from other sources around the world, including articles relating to healthcare, grooming and achievements. It also contains advertisements from suppliers and member breeders which are often of interest of Malamute owners.

The Club offers a Malamute Referral Service in attempting to re-home unwanted Malamutes. We also provides a Puppy Register, where members can register eligible litters of pups for sale, and interested buyers can be given information and referrals.

A great deal of information regarding Alaskan Malamutes as a breed is available from the Club, however, if you require additional information, the following books are recommended:

"This is the Alaskan Malamute by Joan McDonald Brearley"

"The New Complete Alaskan Malamute by Maxwell Riddle & Beth J Harris"

"Your Alaskan Malamute by Dianne Ross"

"History and Management of the Alaskan Malamute by Janet Edmonds."

"Alaskan Malamute by Dianne McCarthy"

"Alaskan Malamutes - A Complete Pet Owner's Manual by Betsey Sikora Siino"

Finally, should you have any questions regarding any aspect of the breed, do not hesitate to contact by sending an e-mail to  famcsa@gocco.co.za

All the best to you and your Mallies.
