WESTERN CAPE CHAPTER

OUR FIRST OUTING

We had a nice walk on the beach, and I must say I think all three malamutes were extremely well behaved! Jette's two girls are gorgeous, and it was lovely to watch them interacting with each other.

When Nanook and Tikana arrived, Damien started off with his usual "there are dogs I want to eat" growl, but the moment he realised they were malamutes, it turned into an excited greeting! There was a great deal of  "talking" and bouncing about while the three malamutes inspected each other. Nanook, who is the more submissive of Jette's dogs, was even allowed to give Damien a kiss! Damien was a little more cautious of Tikana, who obviously sends out "alpha" vibes

It did Damien the world of good to see that there are still other malamutes on the planet, and we all had a wonderful time! Thanks to Jette and her malamute pack members for joining us -

I hope we can do it again soon! Shanu van der Berg

We thoroughly enjoyed our outing and it was lovely to put a face and fur to the names read on the chat emails.
Guys, I have seen a few mals over the past 2 years, but I have to tell you that Damien is an absolutely beautiful example of a magnificent malamute. I have attached my favourite picture for everyone to see how gorgeous he is. Shanu, you can be very proud of him and I am amazed how well you have him under control. Even in a moment of absolute "I want to go over and eat those German Sheppard's" did he listen to you and sit and bark from a distance.

I think the more often they meet the better they will get along and even get excited when they see each other. I hope we can get together again soon (but next time without the "mini-me") ..... Jette Mcgavin

OUR SECOND OUTING

We've had yet another wonderful and very successful Cape Town outing! Unfortunately Jette and her girls couldn't join us, but Damien, Jack and Arthur all had a lovely time on the beach!

There was some initial growling and general "I'm bigger than you" kind of stuff, but after the first few minutes everybody was quite happy to walk together, as long as there was a bit of distance between them. Damien, who firmly believes that he is kind of all malamutes, insisted on being in front most of the time, but nobody seemed to mind.

Arthur had a great time swimming and digging tunnels in the sand. Jack enjoyed the occasional digging session, and after some convincing even got himself quite wet! Damien is far too dignified for any of this, but did make a show of drinking some sea water to prove that he's not scared!

Thanks to Lee, Quin and Alec for coming along. Your malamutes really are gorgeous, and it was lovely to finally meet all of you! We all had a super time, and Damien says he can't wait for our next outing! ..... Shanu

OUR THIRD OUTING

Thanks from us as well for a nice Sunday outing. The slightly cooler and overcast weather was the perfect setting for our 3rd walk and I am happy to say that people and dogs alike enjoyed themselves. It is such a pleasure to see the dogs recognize each other and how excited they are when we start walking. I think dogs are like children: they like a routine and repetition of something they recognize from previous exposure. I hope it will not be to long before we can meet again (with all the holidays coming up now) ...... Jette
